Bygglov är kommunens tillstånd för att bygga nytt, bygga till eller göra vissa större förändringar av en byggnad. Kommunen bedömer bland annat placering, storlek och utformning utifrån PBL och de bestämmelser som gäller för fastigheten. För ett vanligt bostadshus krävs normalt bygglov. Sedan 1 december 2025 gäller nya regler i PBL som ger större möjligheter att uppföra vissa komplementbyggnader och komplementbostadshus utan bygglov. Vad som gäller beror bland annat på storlek, placering och om tomten ligger inom eller utanför detaljplan. A building permit is the municipality's permission to build a new building, extend it or make certain major changes to a building. The municipality assesses, among other things, the location, size and design based on the PBL and the regulations that apply to the property.
A building permit is normally required for a regular residential building. Since 1 December 2025, new rules in the PBL have been in effect that provide greater opportunities to construct certain accessory buildings and accessory residential buildings without a building permit. What applies depends, among other things, on size, location and whether the plot is within or outside the detailed plan.
