En situationsplan görs genom att rita in den planerade byggnaden på en karta över tomten, med mått till tomtgränser och befintliga byggnader. Kartunderlaget beställs vanligtvis från kommunen eller Lantmäteriet, och ritningen ska vara måttsatt och i rätt skala. Den ska visa placering, avstånd och eventuellt anslutningar för att kommunen ska kunna pröva bygget mot detaljplanen. A site plan is made by drawing the planned building onto a map of the plot, with measurements to the boundaries and existing buildings. The map base is usually ordered from the municipality or Lantmäteriet, and the drawing should be dimensioned and to scale. It should show placement, distances and any connections so the municipality can assess the build against the detailed plan.
