Om en byggnad uppförs utan bygglov när lov krävs räknas det som olovligt byggande. Kommunens byggnadsnämnd kan då ingripa och det kan bli aktuellt med byggsanktionsavgift, krav på att söka bygglov i efterhand eller i vissa fall krav på att byggnaden ändras eller tas bort. Det finns samtidigt byggnader som under vissa förutsättningar får uppföras utan bygglov enligt PBL. Därför är det viktigt att kontrollera vad som gäller för den aktuella tomten innan byggstart. If a building is erected without a building permit when a permit is required, it is considered illegal construction.
